While familiar to most for being jaw-achingly cute as Pippin, Billy Boyd is a serious actor who has worked in theater for many years, and has a healthy range of roles to his credit. Growing up in Scotland's version of "the projects" Billy's early years were somewhat stark. He learned a trade--bookbinding--when he was young, and settled in to do that for some time. But a spark of interest in theater, generated from school plays, kept gnawing at him, and finally he decided to go to drama school. Working tirelessly ever since, he broke into films a few years ago, and then landed his break with LOTR. Ironically the oldest of the "young" castmembers playing the youngest character, Billy's quick grin and teasing lilt has made him a favorite among fans, particularly young ones who barely realize that there's a nearly 35-year-old man behind the bright eyes and one-liners. His newest role, that of serious, ship-savvy sidekick to Russell Crowe's captain, promises to help broaden the horizons of some of Billy's fans.
Billy currently has an apartment in Edinburgh, though he spends a lot of time in the US visiting his hobbit pals in LA.
