Another surprise win was the new award for Best Live Act - voted for by the public. Despite competition from current favourites Glasvegas, it was an unsigned band which won the public vote, although Beecake have the advantage of having Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd as their front man.
I haven't found a record from this event, hopefully some will appear soon, but I've found a video (three months old, sorry ), where Billy appeal to fans to vote for Beecake.
Hollywood Star Billy Boyd Tipped to Win Tartan Clef Music Award: Even though they have played only several gigs and don't even have a record deal, Beecake have been nominated in the Best Live Act category.
They will perfom Soul Swimming at tonight's awards, which are held at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow.
Stone of Destiny on Dubai International Film Festival
The Stone of Destiny marries past and present with a story that revolves around a national symbol - the Destiny Stone of Scotland. In 1296 the Stone was seized by King Edward I and taken to Westminster Abbey where it was housed, representing the potency of British rule over Scotland. Fast-forward to Glasgow in 1950. Ian Hamilton, a passionate young Scottish nationalist is hatching a plan to 'repatriate' the Stone from Westminster Abbey, along with a group of unruly student friends. Unbelievably, they succeed. England awakes on Christmas Day to find the Stone of Scotland has vanished, which infuriates the English, and delights the Scots.
The Tartan Army are back shaking up the charts this time with BA Robertson and a whole host of Scots and international showbiz stars.
Singing the famous 1982 World Cup song, the stars are now called Pudsey's Beautiful Dreamers and each say a line.
So there's Samuel L Jackson saying "Gaun Yersel Big Man" as well as Ugly Betty's Ashley Jensen, Dougray Scott, Billy Boyd, Merlin star Richard Wilson, Radio One's Edith Bowman football legend Ally McCoist and Olympic hero Chris Hoy.

A celebrity version of BA Robertson’s 1982 hit, We Have A Dream, will be released in aid of Children in Need 2008.
The cast list for We Have A Dream 2008 features Ugly Betty’s Ashley Jensen, Lord of the Rings actor Billy Boyd, Lorraine Kelly, Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy, Scottish football legend Ally McCoist and Edith Bowman.
Roberto Neri, one of the executive producers of the record says he pursued the idea with BA Robertson, who offered his support to the project and produced the new version. “The meaning of the lyric is bigger than football this time around, with the dream of a better future for the underprivileged children in the UK ,” says Neri.
The single’s other exec producer Jill Sinclair adds, “I’m hoping I can count on my Caledonian chums, as well as my English neighbours, to support this single and get it to number one. The last thing I produced for charity was the Live Aid and Live 8 DVDs for the Band Aid Trust. I’m sure Bob Geldof won’t mind me paraphrasing him and saying ‘give us your f***ing money’.”
The Stone of Destiny will be screened on the Whistler Film Festival which is held from December 4 to December 7. It takes places in Whistler located in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada.
The movie itself will be shown on December 5 at 9.45am (what a crazy time), as you can see in the film guide.

Scottish Screen defends £500,000 investment in feature film
Scottish Screen has hit back at a Perthshire-based MSP’s criticism of a film dramatising the theft of the Stone of Destiny from Westminster Abbey.
Tory deputy leader Murdo Fraser branded the film, featuring Robert Carlyle and Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd, as “drivel” and a waste of taxpayers’ money.
In an unprecedented move, the national screen organisation defended the film. It said more than £2million was spent in Scotland during production, representing a 400% return on the initial public investment.
Scottish Screen said the UK/Canadian co-production employed 145 Scottish crew during filming, with about 84% in Scotland itself.
The film could have been shot more cheaply in Canada or Eastern Europe but the producers were attracted to Scotland by the locations, the quality of the crews and facilities, and the £500,000 Scottish Screen national lottery investment.
Line producer Peter Gallagher said: “Stone of Destiny offered employment on a daily basis for 100 crew during the shoot period, as well as employment for over 500 extras.
“This is vital in supporting a skills base of experienced crew and cast within Scotland, which is essential to the long-term survival of the film industry in Scotland.”
Carole Sheridan, head of talent and creativity at Scottish Screen and executive producer on the film, said Stone of Destiny was extremely well received at the Toronto premiere.
Mr Fraser, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, had claimed the film was derided by critics, with one saying it was a national affront and a “feeble caper full of toe-curling national stereotypes, tourist board visuals and bluntly scripted platitudes”.
“Surely in times of economic recession and a squeeze on budget, we should ensure that any public money spent on feature films is used for quality projects and not this sort of drivel,” he had said.
After such a long time I finally found something new, and it's not possitive at all . I'm talking about kind of review on Stone of Destiny. I didn't see it myself, so I can't tell my point of view, but I hope it's not that bad as they say .
A film dramatising a daring raid on Westminster Abbey to bring home the historic Stone of Destiny has been branded "drivel" and a waste of tax payers' money.
Tory MSP Murdo Fraser hit out at the decision to spend £300,000 of public cash on the movie, which features Robert Carlyle and Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd.
The film, called Stone of Destiny, tells the story of Ian Hamilton, a nationalist student who helped organise the break-in on Christmas Day 1950.
DIRECTED by American Charles Martin Smith, ‘Stone of Destiny’ tells the story of Ian Hamilton, the ringleader of four Glasgow students who launched a daring raid on Westminster Abbey to return the Stone of Scone to Scotland.
At a time when the SNP is in power, and pushing for independence, this film is an advert for all things Scottish. We have bagpipes, whisky, lovely scenery and a distinct mistrust of the English.
Ironically, then, Ian Hamilton is played by Englishman Charlie Cox. Both he, and American Kate Mara, offer up decent Scottish accents, although you do wonder why Scots weren’t cast in the roles.
However, far more bizarre was the sight and sound of Ron Donachie (of ‘Rebus’ and ‘Tutti Frutti’ fame) playing an English nightwatchman.
1950s Scotland is recreated really well, although the absence of rain was mystifying. The access gained to Westminster Abbey is also very impressive.
Laughs are provided by Billy Boyd (Bill) and Stephen McCole (Gavin), however Robert Carlyle’s well-spoken John MacCormick is a far cry from ‘Trainspotting’s’ Begbie and a slight waste of his talents. Peter Mullan also stars, for all of two minutes.
The theft itself is light years away from the hi-tech heist in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, as comic capers feature thick and fast, but this adds realism and you want the team to succeed.
The film slows a little in the middle and other elements, such as the quick-fire central romance, grind a little. The English are also a little ‘boo, hiss’, indeed one commits the ultimate sin of calling Hamilton ‘jock.’
However, it is hard to sit through it without a smile on your face, and feeling immensely patriotic. Not sure how the English would enjoy it though.
Although a step down from director Smith’s previous classics ‘The Untouchables’ and ‘American Graffiti’, ‘Stone of Destiny’ is an entertaining caper that makes you that little bit prouder to be Scottish.
