There has been quite a fair amount of interest in the upcoming movie Space Milkshake, with not a lot of people being very clear on exactly what the movie is about. However, one of the stars of the movie, Robin Dunne has tried to clear up the confusion but even admitted that he was confused when he first learnt of the project.
Dunne explained, “It was so fun to do, I mean, it’s such a bizarre movie, as you can probably tell by the title. You know, it’s really hard to describe and I have this problem every time I try to describe it to people because people are like ‘What?’ and even when it was described to me at first I was like ‘Huh?’ Basically it’s about these four people that are trapped on a spaceship and this rubber duck morphs to life and becomes a monster and tries to kill everyone.”
He added, “It’s an amazing cast. I roped Amanda Tapping into doing it with me, Kristin Kreuk was great and Billy Boyd. I mean, it was a blast to do and it’s good to do a comedy, I mean a wacky comedy like that was great. It should be out sometime in mid 2012.” You can see Robin Dunne, with Kristin Kreuk, Amanda Tapping and Billy Boyd, when Space Milkshake is released later this year.
It seems that the website BOB.net was hosted by has expired and I lost the access to my FTP. I don't understand why BOB.net is still on, but it may be just a delay, so don't worry if I disappear - it would be just temporary. Currently I am looking for some solution, hopefully it will turn out all right. Sorry for the eventual problems.
Scottish actor Billy Boyd was recently in Australia and he found time to chat to LESLEY SLADE about The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, as well as his love of surfing, Jedis and music…
HE might be best known for his role as the mischief-making, yet loveable, hobbit Pippin from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but Billy Boyd is pleasantly just as affable and laid-back in person.
Boyd visited Australia recently as a special guest at Brisbane’s Supanova pop culture expo.
His fly-in visit only gave him a few days to spend in the Queensland capital, but he left suitably impressed.
“I haven’t been able to make it to Supanova in the past, but I’d spoken to people who had done it before and they’ve said it was great fun,” he smiles.
“And with The Hobbit filming, the plan was to go to New Zealand while I’m here, so I could visit the set. But I’ve just found out I have to go to Canada for a film called Space Milkshake, so it’s just a quick visit.
“I’ll be really disappointed if I don’t get to see The Hobbit set eventually. What’s great is that it’s pretty much the same crew that worked on The Lord of the Rings. I was speaking to Elijah [Wood] who’s been there filming and he said it’s like déjà vu, because he feels like he never left. So, yeah, I’d love to go back – I really miss New Zealand!”
The jovial Boyd described being part of one of the world’s most successful movie franchises as a life-changing experience.
“It’s crazy because it was like a whole other life. We lived there for quite a while and the filming process was so extensive you forget that people met on set and got married and had kids while the movies were being made. It was like one big family,” he laughs.
It’s hard to believe the fresh-faced Glaswegian is 43. Even though he may look young, his maturity as an actor has served him well over the years.
Apart from the wealth of acting talent in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Boyd has also worked alongside the likes of Russell Crowe, Paul Bettany, Lauren Bacall, Alfred Molina and Christopher Lloyd.
“It all came from Star Wars,” he jokes. “I wanted to be a Jedi, so I became an actor. I just love the idea of pretending to be someone else.”
Perhaps then it was destiny that the Scotsman, who once worked as a book binder and bound copies of The Lord of the Rings by hand, would one day become a member of the Fellowship and be seen on movie screens around the world.
Although it was a quick trip this time around, Boyd intends on coming back to Australia again to surf and tour with his band, Beecake.
“We’ve just finished working on our second album which we’ll probably release in early 2012. It’s really exciting – we want to tour Australia and New Zealand with it and we’ll be doing gigs in the UK as well,” he says.
From singing celtic ballads in The Return of the King, to fronting his alternative rock band with guitar in hand, it’s doesn’t seem too much of a stretch for this multi-talented artist.
“I love doing film and music. It’s great because no matter where we play there’ll always be some Lord of the Rings fans there and I think that’s brilliant.”
Billy was being interviewed about his band Beecake on the grammy.com website and the results are following videos. But at first, this short article with the first video :)
Billy Boyd, actor and vocalist/guitarist for Scottish indie alternative band Beecake, was the recent guest for an installment of The Recording Academy's 5 Questions With … series. Held at The Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., Boyd discussed managing an acting and music career, his songwriting process, advice for aspiring artists, and starting a band, among other topics.
"Sometimes it's kind of difficult to get the timing right with acting and playing music," said Boyd, "but sometimes you just have to say, 'I'm putting away this time.'"
They said it couldn't be done. They said we would be fools to try to wrangle the four actors who played the main hobbits in Peter Jackson's epic Lord Of The Rings trilogy into one room. But we travelled for thousands of miles, endured orcs, wraiths, lava and more to make it happen. All right, so we just gathered the lads – Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd – in a photo studio. But it was the first time they’d been together in who knows how long (not them, apparently). We had them talk bonding, bruises, and baths. And yes, they also complained about their feet…

Another article is an interview with Amanda Tapping. It's mostly about Sanctuary, the TV series she plays in, but she also mentions Space Milkshake:
Tell me more about "Space Milkshake." I laugh every time I see the trailer. When is that coming out?
Hopefully April. It's a comedy. We had an absolute blast making it, but part of the fun of the tease of "Space Milkshake" is everything that we've sent out in terms of twitpics and this teaser doesn't tell you a thing about the movie and I actually think that that's brilliant. When we filmed this teaser I thought, "This is awesome. You still have no idea who these people are."
So people can assume they're on a spaceship and they don't get along, but that may not be it at all is what you're saying.
Right. I think we have put it out there that we are crew members on an orbital sanitation station, not even a spaceship. It's a sanitation spaceship, which is just worse in so many ways. And I think it's pretty clear from the teaser that we may not necessarily all be getting along at this point in time.
Right, which is what is so funny about that.
Yeah, but it was great fun. It was you know to work with Kristen Kreuk and Billy Boyd and of course, my lovely Robin [Dunne], was a blast. It was a really nice shake-up from this very heavy season of "Sanctuary" to go out and just do something completely silly.
Here you have a video with an interview of Robin Dunne, one of the actors from Space Milkshake. He talkes about the movie, what it's about and also about the cast choice. There's also a little mention of Billy ;)
I'm so sorry I haven't updated for so long, but I was awfuly busy - you know, school. Well, in fact, two :D
However, I have for you a trailer for the new Billy's film Space Milkshake, where he stars also with Amanda Tapping from Stargate. The second video is made of few pictures from the filming.
